The Amsterdam-based duo met during a songwriting course at CREA Cultureel Studentencentrum, and there was immediately a connection. Sef Panhuysen’s emotional vocals and their shared interest in a deconstructive approach to lyrics resonated with artist and producer Olaf Kerckhaert, and they set about giving voice to their feelings, dreams, and the natural world around them. Their atmospheric landscape music and associative lyric writing takes cues from early electronic music and neural networks, as well as the primal poetry of Allen Ginsberg. With a focus on atmospheric sounds, Howl aims to explore beyond the boundaries of traditional song structures.
